Tasting Notes : Deep red purple with violet reflections. Red fruits on the nose with hint of garrigue. Round tannins in the mouth, hint of spice balance the dark red fruits and aromatic softness. An overall balanced wine typical of southern côtes du rhône. 13.5% alc.

Production Notes : Two weeks fermentation at between 25°C and 28°C. Daily pumping over. The grapes, Syrah and Grenache Noir, are first completely destemmed. Gold Medal Winner Concours de Paris 2011.

Pair With: Good with a lunchtime “steak-frites.” Also for an afternoon or evening patio hamburger and/or steak bbq. Salty snacks. Serve at 15 -17°C.

This “cave cooperative,” or wine cooperative, of the Vignerons du Castelas represents 70 grower-families who have come together to make wines whose typicity of the Southern French sun and terroir of Vallée du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône is noteworthy.

They cultivate their vineyards with respect to tradition and with respect to the land, to preserve its yields capacity for generations to come. The appellations included in the holdings of the families that make up the cooperative are: Côtes du Rhône, Côtes du Rhône villages and Côtes du Rhône villages Signargues. Located on the Right Bank of the Rhône, Avignon is 10 km. away and Pont du Gard is 16 km.; the majestic Mont Ventoux is within sight of most of the vineyards.

In the last four years, the Vignerons du Castelas have invested €2.1 million in their technical processing and production equipment. Some of the improvements are: Grape traceability; Chiller system; Air conditioned storehouse for the wines; And a production monitoring system.

The Castelas, the 11th c. Romanesque chapel perched on top of the village of Rochefort du Gard, is the landmark the name of the winery, Les Vignerons du Castelas, derives from.
